Epson FastFoto FF-640 Specifications

The Epson FastFoto FF-640 claims its throne as the world’s fastest photo scanner. It’s made specifically for efficiency and speed. It’s the Flash of photo digitization. It doesn’t skimp on quality, either. People can get 600 dpi when they want more detailed digital pictures. However, the FF-640 isn’t just the Fast & Furious of scanning. This car accommodates all sizes, from the smallest 2×2 inch wallet to the massive 8×10 inch. It’s a photo scanner on par with an Autobot since Epson’s solution won’t require scrambling for different adapters. All people have to do is put in the photos and let the auto feeder do its job. It could take on 30 at once, so you can begin to come close to imagining the difference between scanning in a massive photo collection manually and doing so with this wonder.

Software integration is where the FastFoto FF-640 also delivers. Its SafeTouch technology allows the scanner to quickly convert photos without the risk of damaging them — crucial for anyone who’s trying to digitize their decades-old family photos. It comes with many tools to restore, organize, and share images. It has several handy features, such as automatic color correction and removing red-eye to bring faded photos back to life. That’s not enough, Epson says, so they’ve also crammed in OCR, so you can also turn paper documents into searchable PDFs. Last but not least, you can also use the software to tag photos with dates, locations, and events and create an index sheet that’ll make it easy for you to find that snap of little Jimmy when the time comes to embarrass him at his wedding.

The FF-640 has its challenges, however. The price will likely make you think twice unless you’re an archive fiend, and the heavy emphasis on photo scanning means you would want to use something other than this as your primary document scanner. It’d be nice if it were an all-in-one solution for anything you want to throw its way. However, there’s no question that it’s one of the best devices of this kind. The marriage of quick scanning with intelligent software makes it powerful — you probably wouldn’t have to do much beyond shoving photos into it when you’re digitizing years’ worth of snapshots.
