Epson XP-300 Specifications

The XP-300 Small-in-One printer raises the bar for what one should expect from a printer regarding features, cost, size, and performance. For its sub-$100 price (including being built for photo-realistic and everyday printing), the fact that we can suggest it earns it kudos. However, you get even more: A compact footprint that doesn’t clutter a room or office; only the core features (scan, copy, print) most home users need; and an intuitive control panel to boot for less work and more play.

The compact printer market is such that Epson is one of many who can make small printers, just the only company that pairs its tiny all-in-ones with its most modern print engine stylus. So long as you don’t mistake the phrase “inkjet all-in-one” with “photo printer,” you won’t be disappointed. However, if you are only printing text, you may be surprised by the XP-300’s ability to churn out near laser-quality text… and while it’s true that this printer’s photo and color graphics quality is less impressive, it’s more than adequate to serve light duty home and family use. Being on the bottom rung of the Small-in-One ladder has its advantages. For now, it’s the only one that saves you space while in use.

On the downside, the XP-300 is affordable when pushed to perform beyond its comfort zone. Its print speeds suit light or sporadic use but may seem sluggish under more demanding workloads. While the quality of photo prints is adequate for nonspecialist use, it needs more vibrancy and near-permanent clarity of more photo-centric printers, so while it’s okay for everyday document printing, it may need to catch up to professional-grade image reproduction. The cost per page from its standard ink cartridges may also appear uncompetitive on the surface. However, that must include using high-yield cartridges, lowering that price considerably, and the usual cavalcade of third-party compatible options.

Connectivity is one of the XP-300’s strong points – it’s Wi-Fi enabled, which allows you to print from all over your home, whether from a computer, smartphone, or tablet. It’s also compatible with Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. The XP-300 is aimed at mobile users and has lots of features. We do miss direct print features like media card slots or a USB connection for PictBridge, but again, the wireless connectivity is not something we always see at $90. For the price, the Epson XP-300 provides an impressive feature set, making it a good fit for home users who want an essential, no-frills all-in-one.
